I have become addicted to book making! I still need a lot of practice but here is a book I made using TAC papers. The binding I used is called single needle coptic. This type of binding will let your book open to lay flat! It isn’t very hard but I didn’t get it totally right. I suggest printing out the directions so you have them right in front of you. This book is a mix of two different books I have seen, so it looks a little odd. lol. This book is 6in X 6in. This makes cutting and measuring easy when you are using 12 X 12 papers. I only had 8×8 card stock so I cut down one side and folded the other at 2 inches.\
Then I took the 12×12 and cut in half (6×12), folded that in half and glued each one to one piece of card stock. Be sure to fold your pattern paper pattern side in if it is only one sided. This will make the pattern be on the inside of the page for embellishing.

Then stack your pages together, clip them, and punch the holes. The pic doesn’t show the cover but you should have that clipped to your pages too. To make the cover cut a piece of chipboard to size and glue the paper of your choice to it.

Once you have the hole punched you can begin sewing. I used a curved needle and that seemed to help. Remember to punch your holes big enough that what ever thread/string you are using can pass through twice.
Here is what my book looks like all done. It lays nice and flat so I can use it as a journal or whatever. My binding didn’t come out quite right but it still looks fine and works well. These little books can be used and mini albums, brag books, dream books, or journals. They also make really great gifts. With all the cutting, gluing, sewing, fighting my thread(lol) this book took me almost two hours. Now that I have a better idea of what I’m doing I’m sure the next one will go faster. I haven’t added any embellishments to the book. I’m not sure if I will yet. This book was a practice book. The real book is going to be a baby girl brag book for my friend!

The books started out as easy holiday gifts/ school project for my kids. And now I’m hooked! Yesterday I make a hand sewn little book. It is not perfect but I’m still pleased with myself. When I get the steps all down and have a nice finished product to show you I will posts pic, instructions, and links. These books are great for making some really cool personalized gifts.

I have noticed a lot of hits on this blog are looking for info on matching colors. I know that all the color choices in papers, inks, embelishments can make it hard to put things together.
Here are some articles I found that may help you.
8 Basic Scrapbooking Color Tips – Scrapbooking – Families.com
Scrapbooking Handbook – Scrapbooking Using Color
One of the main rules I use is that if you see it in nature the colors look good together. This works with different hues of the same colors also. Some of you may feel more comfortable learning to use a color wheel. Have fun with color, experiment and be bold!

Yes, it is that time of year again. I will be heading to my Grandma’s house for Christmas card crazyness. Every year my cousin moves up the date for card making. Last year it was October, this year September. At some point she will be having us make the next years cards the day after christmas. lol. Oh, well. I order some new stamps, papers, and stuff from TAC. I’ll be posting pics of what we make and what ever I decide to demo. I’ll also post instructions if I happend to come up with something cool!
I know for some it is still too early to be thinking Christmas cards, just remember TAC also has great stamps and papers for fall and Halloween.

Here is a little something I have been working on. I haven’t gotten it all the way done yet. The inside is still blank. This pocket is a punch out from TAC’s cardstock punch out sets. I just used the punch out but if you wanted to make more than one you could use the punch out as a template. I used my markers to ink the stamp. I used stamps from The Earth Laughs in Flowers set-T-2116. I used a flower punch out to hold the pocket closed. I glued half of the flower down and left the other half free to hold the pocket closed. To make this pocket look like a little purse you could add a ribbon as a strap. All that is left is to add your message to the inside. I think just using the pocket alone with out adding it to a card makes it so much more fun. These make great invitations to girls night and things like that. When I decide how I’m going to finish it off, I will post about it. Oh, I just thought of how this would make a really cute baby shower invitation! Just stamp it with baby themed stamps and make it look like a diaper bag!
